Our trip to Tasmania - Launceston

I knew that Launceston was a fairly small city and didn't have a lot of expectations but I was truly surprised by its beauty.

It is situated on the picturesque banks of Tamar River and is one of the oldest cities in Australia. I was surrounded by old Victorian and Art Deco buildings

We stayed in Auldington Hotel which was built in 1899.  Behind vintage exterior the hotel had recently renovated and modern rooms.
...and a beautiful garden at the front.

The whole city was full of fragrant blooming flowers, particularly roses.

We loved going for a walk there looking at beautiful architecture.

On our last day we came back to Lauceston again and had few hours to spare before our flight. So we went to see Cataract Gorge and surrounding parklands.

At the park we got greeted by several gorgeous peacocks
Cataract Gorge was certainly a must-see...

I loved big public pool next to it...

We took a chair lift to get a better view...

 ...and walked around

Now you can see why it is so easy to fall in love with Launceston. Next time I will definitely stay there longer.

Our trip to Tasmania - overview

In November 2012 we had one of the most memorable holidays in Tasmania. We stayed there for 6 days and hired a car to get around.

I've highlighted our route on the map.

We flew in and out of Launceston directly from Brisbane. The flight was relatively quick (3.5 hours) and comfortable. I got tickets few months before our trip when Jetstar had their annual "take a friend for free" sale.

I must say that Tasmania is one of the most unique and beautiful places I've ever been to. There is so much to see and do that 6 days was definitely not enough and we are planning to go there again to explore places we haven't seen yet and re-visit some of our favorites.
